Deputy Commissioner (DC) Santanu Sinha Biswas remains missing following an Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid on his Ballygunge residence late last month. Known as an "influential" officer who formerly served as the OC of Kalighat police station, Biswas reportedly failed to appear before the ED at the CGO Complex despite a formal summons. Following the dramatic political shift on May 4, when the BJP ousted the TMC government, sources suggest a lookout notice was issued for the missing officer on the morning of May 5.
The disappearance is shrouded in contradictory claims between the investigating agency and the officer’s family. While ED sources maintain that Biswas was not present during the initial search of his home, his son, Sayantan Sinha Biswas, claimed his father was indeed at home and cooperating with a "normal inquiry" regarding documents. Even a lawyer who arrived at the scene, Prosenjit Nag, admitted he had no direct contact with the DC, further deepening the mystery of his exact whereabouts.
Investigating agencies are particularly interested in Biswas’s alleged connections to South Kolkata resident Sona Pappu and Behala-based promoter Joy Kamdar. While Joy Kamdar has already been arrested by the ED, Sona Pappu remains at large. The vanishing of a top-tier police official at such a critical political juncture has raised serious questions about systemic corruption and the extent of the "nexus" between law enforcement and local promoters.
